 The GSDP programme is being conducted by TERI ENVIS Resource Partner under the umbrella of ENVIS in Gopalpur, Odisha where the unemployed youth including the 10th, 12th dropouts and ITI qualified candidate, were given a chance to learn about solar energy technologies under the course titled ‘Sustain and Enhance Technical Knowledge in Solar Energy Systems’. The idea behind the course was to make the participants self-reliant and employable such that they can earn a decent living. Figure 2 shows the screenshot of online application form of GSDP portal. The batch of around 30 students was selected after carefully scrutinizing their applications and interviewed by the experts following which they were imparted, all—round training of 240 hours to enhance their knowledge on solar energy technologies. The course also involved training by subject experts and practical exposure of problem solving using solar energy technologies and equipment’s. These students were quite keen in learning and becoming technically proficient after attending the training and displayed the best signs in implementing the technology applications in an industrial environment.

The idea behind the course was to make the participants aware of the following:

  • Understand and assess the market needs and the capability to meet these;
  • Inculcate a step-by-step understanding of the methodology and design a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system;
  • Identify different types of solar devices and assessment of power, customization of solar system and its importance.
  • Acquire a basic understanding of actual project implementation and the design principles of solar PV.
