Come and be a part of the Carbon Neutral Ladakh Movement – a Seminar on Green Livelihood Opportunities for a Carbon Neutral Ladakh. 1.5 days (24th and 25th of September 2023) of exciting and enriching conference around the opportunities of augmenting livelihoods from Climate Action at HIAL, Phyang Ladakh.

Theme of the Seminar:

For several centuries, Ladakhi people have held onto their traditions, relying on their indigenous knowledge and collective action to not just sustain but flourish in this extremely harsh climate. But now, climate change, mindless modernisation and fast tourism is threatening this highly sustainable way of life and its highly fragile ecology. Glaciers are receding fast and forming lakes risking chances of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF), increased rainfall on barren mountains has increased chances of flash floods. Furthermore, lack of water sources during sowing season makes the farmlands barren and villagers (especially youth) are faced with prospects of having to abandon their villages and migrate to other places for livelihood. The reasons can be attributed to Global Warming in general, but regional emissions also play an equally devastating role.
