On 6 February 2020, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Resource Partner on Renewable Energy and Climate Change in collaboration with Lakshadweep ENVIS Hub, held a one-day seminar on ‘Impact of climate change in Lakshadweep: Mitigating climate change using sustainable sources’ at Multipurpose Hall, Secretariat, Kavaratti, Lakshadweep on 6th of February, 2020. The seminar was organized under the Environment Information System (ENVIS) scheme funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The seminar was inaugurated by Mr Mihir Vardhan, IAS, Advisor to the Hon'ble Administrator, UT of Lakshadweep, who also delivered the keynote address. The following discussions touched upon an array of topics such as impacts of climate change in India, risks of climate change in Lakshadweep, energy scenario and mitigation, blue economy, natural disasters, etc. Participants from policy, research, and academic backgrounds attended the seminar and appreciated the efforts of the organizers. The closing remarks were presented by Mr AT Damodhar, Secretary of Departments of Environment & Forest, Animal Husbandry, and Labour Employment & Training, which was followed by distribution of certificates.
