On the occasion of Earth Day TERI ENVIS RP organized a webinar on ‘Present Scenario of Clean Energy Opportunities & Impacts of Green Skill Development Training’ on 22nd April 2020 at 11:00 hrs -12:00 hrs. GSDP trainees, speakers from TERI, academicians and industry professionals took part in the webinar. The event was organised from the perspective of challenges faced by GSDP trainees in getting livelihoods and entrepreneurial activities. As majority of our trainees are from rural areas, the COVID-19 related lockdown has posed serious threats to their future plans, subsequent downgrading of morality as well. He session was able to develop moral to over 75 participants who attended the webinar. Present and future job opportunities, advanced training possibilities etc and need of trained workforce by industries were some major areas covered as part of the webinar. Faculty of the webinar includes a mixture of research academics and industry professionals. Mr. Amit Kumar, Sr. Programme Director, Social Transformation TERI, Dr Debajit Palit, Director & Senior Fellow, Rural Energy & Livelihoods Division, Mr. Asim Mirza, Field Manager, Rural Energy & Livelihoods Division, Mr Jitender Tiwari Field Manager, Rural Energy & Livelihoods Division, TERI , Mr Arpo Mukherjee, Associate Fellow, TERI, Mr. Akif Farooqui, Dy Manager, Rural Energy & Livelihoods Division, TERI, Mr Manoj Kumar – M/s Luminous Power, Ms Shweta Gautam, M/s Mahindra and Mahindra. Besides, Dr P K Bhattacharya, ENVIS Coordinator, Ms Pallavi Shukla, TERI ENVIS Programme Officer and other ENVIS staff members were also present and interacted with the students in this occasion.
Major points discussed in the webinar are:
- Speakers emphasised on solar plays a major role in moving towards sustainable lifestyle and possibilities are likely to improve multi-fold till 2030. This includes tremendous job opportunities in solar sector.
- How future employment generation in the solar energy sector will happen, scenarios of future jobs and job roles in developing a good enterprise in the solar energy systems and forecast 2030 scenarios of job opportunities. Advanced training in solar PV sector would enable students to get handsome salary and other business opportunities. GSDP trainees could undertake various online courses for future career developments.
- The faculty discussed on the problem faced by the trainees and it’s solving approach and gives various examples of successful candidates developed their entrepreneurs with the help of the training faculty teams.
- While discussion on the current opportunities for students, industries enumerated various opportunities in the solar energy system, industry infrastructure, and planning of marketing- networking at the grassroots level in rural and semi-urban areas. The trainees can play major role in maintenance of solar inventories, become service partners, supporting small ventures to provide services on behalf of the company.
- The session concluded by discussing the history of earth day and how the youth takes it away forward by developing its skills in sustainable energy by deciding the objectives and job roles, particularly in green skills development and green energy sector.
